we were charged with building a model of Todd Rosenthal’s set design for “Trinity River Plays”. we were given the full packet of draftings and that was all.

this landscape is derived from the concrete behemoths left all over the deep woods up in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, often the only remains of once-booming mining operations.

assignment: recreate, in whitemodel form, one of the famous Thorne Rooms in the collection at the Art Institute of Chicago. these super-pro miniatures are completely insane. they’re also on 1″scale, whereas ours (like everything shown here) are in 1/4″ scale. i chose the Shaker community house living room, circa 1804. a couple of shots of my whitemodel, followed by a photo of the source model.
